  1. Title of the Symposium
'The 300,000 International Students Plan'  and Japanese Language Education:
Collaboration of Higher Education and Language Schools
  2. Aims
'The 300,000 International Students Plan' was launched last year. This ambitious goal proposes to increase the number of foreign students to 300,000 by 2020. One of the ideas promoted in this plan is to develop programs in which students can earn degrees at universities in English-only classes. It is expected that the majority of these students will use Japanese as media of language while they are studying in Japan. Further, these students are expected to seek employment and contribute to Japanese society after they complete their studies. In order for this plan be implemented successfully, it appears evident that we need to develop a system in which Japanese education will be instilled. One way is to collaborate between universities and Japanese language schools. We assume that these collaborations are imperative, and this Symposium will explore 'The 300,000 International Students Plan', how Japanese language education is being accomplished, and how it should be envisioned in the future.
