The Information Center for International Education offers information regarding study in Japan and abroad to promote student exchange at higher education level between Japan and various countries overseas.

Services and Policies

Tokyo Center

The Information Center for International Education ('Information Center' for short):

  1. Provides information on study in Japan and abroad.
  2. Helps you to look up information and design your own plans for study in Japan.
  3. Offers free consultation regarding Japanese educational institutions (universities, junior colleges, professional training colleges and Japanese language institutes), procedures for study in Japan, scholarships, educational/career paths, and more.
  4. The Information Center does not offer proxy application services, act as a go-between for enrollment in specific institutions, arrange homestays, or provide similar services.
  5. Does not mail out information on individual institutions.  If you wish to receive application documents, brochures, etc. from a particular institution, please contact the institution directly.

1. Reference Library

Reception in the reference library

  1. You can read books and magazines on study in Japan, and view bulletins, videos, and other resources issued by Japanese universities, junior colleges, professional training colleges and Japanese language institutes.
  2. You can also browse web pages related to study in Japan on the Internet terminals.
  3. The reference library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m..
  4. Information Center Tokyo is also open on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

  1. Consultation on study in Japan is offered from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.(weekdays only).
  2. Please note that there may be times when staff members cannot respond because they are serving other clients.
  3. Basic information can be obtained by this website.

3. Advising by e-mail

  1. Send e-mail inquiries on study in Japan to: nippon@jasso.go.jp
  2. Please make your inquiry concise, and include the following information.
    • Name and home country
    • The field you wish to study and level (undergraduate/graduate)
    • Degree seeking or not
    • Japanese language proficiency
    • The month and year in which you wish to start studying, and the length of your study
    • Current status ("##-year university student," "non-student worker," etc.) and field of study
  3. Please note that in some cases it may take approximately several days to respond to your inquiry.
  4. In order to protect our computer system from e-mail viruses, the following types of e-mail are not accepted.
    × E-mail without a subject ("re:")
    × E-mail with the subject that cannnot be clearly identified as an inquiry of study in Japan
    × E-mail with an attached file

4. In-person advising

  1. To receive in-person consultation, you need to make an appointment by phone.
  2. Before receiving consultation, please read the relevant information resources at the center's reference library or on this website.
  3. You can make your consultation session more productive by outlining your questions on paper before visiting.
  4. Please be on time for your appointment.  If you need to cancel or reschedule, make sure to call the Center beforehand.
  5. Consultation on study in Japan is offered from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weekdays only)

    * Except the second Wednesdays, the year-end and New Year's holidays, consecutive holidays in April and May

9. JASSO's overseas representative offices

1) JASSO operates overseas representative offices in the following countries to provide information, consultation, and other services for people interested in studying in Japan.

2) At every office, you can freely browse brochures of Japanese educational institutions, books, magazines, and other resources on study in Japan.

3) To find out service hours and days, and other information, please directly contact each office.

10. Public facilities to access information on study in Japan

JASSO designates 55 Japan alumni association offices and university libraries in 22 countries and regions around Asia as information bases open to the public, to send information materials to promote studying in Japan.
